Pakistan, October 16, 2024 – Eleventh-hour decision, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for the tax year 2024. The move came just hours before the October 14, 2024 midnight deadline, offering much-needed relief to taxpayers across Pakistan.
According to Circular No. 03 of 2024-25 issued by the FBR on the evening of October 14, 2024, the deadline has been pushed to October 31, 2024. This extension applies to individuals, associations of persons (AOPs), and companies who were originally required to file their returns for year 2023-2024. The decision was made under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, which grants the FBR authority to extend deadlines in cases of public interest.
The FBR noted that this decision was driven by requests from various trade bodies, tax bar associations, and the general public, many of whom had faced challenges in meeting the original deadline due to banking holidays in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
